Le Havre University Lighting Project

As Pamir Lighting, we delivered the lighting solutions for Le Havre University in the Normandy region of France. In educational spaces used intensively by students and academics throughout the day, our aim was to provide efficient and comfortable lighting while giving the space a strong design identity. To achieve this, we used different versions of the Galaksi O ring pendant family throughout the project, creating a consistent design language.

The luminaires used in the project were manufactured with a CRI 90 colour rendering index and UGR<19 glare control. CRI 90 ensures that colours appear natural and vivid, helping course materials, text and visuals to be perceived clearly. UGR<19 minimises glare, reducing eye strain for students who spend long periods listening to lectures, reading and working at screens, and meets the comfort level required by European standards for educational spaces.

In classrooms and study areas, we chose Galaksi O Direct/Indirect luminaires. This luminaire directs light both downwards and towards the ceiling, with the two light components driven independently. Light reflected from the ceiling softly fills the room and reduces contrast, creating a more comfortable environment for students working at screens or studying for long periods. It also prevents the ring from appearing as a dark silhouette against the ceiling.

In common areas and circulation zones, we used Galaksi O Direct luminaires. Adapting to the scale of each space with a range of diameter options, Galaksi O Direct provides uniform light distribution on work surfaces and in circulation areas.

In entrance halls and large-volume spaces, we used Galaksi O Slim Direct luminaires, which stand out with their slim 65 mm body. With diameter options of up to 2240 mm and high luminous flux values, these luminaires create both powerful lighting and an elegant focal point in large spaces.

All Galaksi O luminaires feature a satin-finished anodised aluminium body, LUMILEDS, OSRAM and NICHIA LED modules rated at 60,000 hours and an ENEC-compliant constant current driver. The height-adjustable suspension system, made of 1 mm steel cable and nickel-plated brass parts, offers flexibility during installation. Some of the luminaires also offer dimmable DALI driver and emergency kit options, meeting both energy saving and safety requirements.
